Sandy Police Citizens Academy

The Sandy Police Citizens Academy is an 11-week program designed to give citizens an opportunity to better understand the role of police officers within their community.  It is a comprehensive and interactive class designed to give citizens and business leaders in Sandy City a first-hand experience of the responsibilities and duties of police officers.

Things to expect during the Citizens Academy:

  • Overview of the Sandy Police Department
  • Hiring process and training
  • Introduction to law enforcement:
    • Emergency Vehicle Operations
    • Defensive Tactics and Handcuffing
    • General Laws and procedures
    • Crime Scene Investigation
    • Death Investigation
    • Traffic Investigation
    • Firearms
    • SWAT
    • Building Clearing

This is a popular class currently offered once a year.  You must be at least 18 years old and able to pass a criminal background check.  Applicants must complete enrollment forms.  There is no cost to the academy if you are selected to attend.

The academy for 2017 will run from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. every Thursday night starting March 30th, 2017 through June 8th  2017.  There will also be one Saturday class on May 13th, 2017 beginning at 9:00 am.
