Steve Fairbanks is a civic-minded husband, father and grandfather with a big stake in Sandy and a desire to serve. He's lived, worked and volunteered here since 1977, raising four children with his wife Aleta. Six of their twelve grandchildren also call Sandy home.

Steve runs with no agenda beyond objectivity. He brings pragmatic concern for Sandy's overall best interests to the council chambers. His core values are public safety, smart growth, livability, amenities and a strong economic base to pay for it all. He's excited about Sandy's bright future.

Sean Kowallis is proud to call Sandy City his home. After moving here, Sean has sought opportunities to participate in the community and local government.

He currently serves as precinct chair as well as state and county delegate. He feels it's time city council has more diversity in the backgrounds of those serving. He sees the vital importance of citizens' involvement in decisions for Sandy. Sean believes traditions are crucial to the community's success and future growth. It's time to elect someone to act for Sandy residents and make their voices heard.

Jeff is a husband, father of six, and long-time resident of Sandy City. Jeff earned two Bachelor of Science Degrees (Economics and Political Science) from the University of Utah, and a Master of Business Administration Degree (MBA) from Western Governors University.

Jeff will join the Council with no predetermined agenda, no ulterior motives, and without the increasingly common "rubber stamp" mentality prevalent in politics today. Sandy is the best city in Utah, and Jeff will serve to restore, protect, and enhance the freedoms enjoyed by the citizens, businesses, and visitors of this great city, and will do so with frugality.

Linda has been a resident of Sandy since 9-years old. She attended Mount Jordan Middle and Jordan High Schools. She and her husband Gary have been married 46 years with four children and four grandchildren. She has worked for Jordan School District and non-profit organizations. She currently works as the Executive Director for The Sandy Club, "A Safe Place for Boys & Girl". She has dedicated her life to helping and improving families' lives in our community with diligence and compassion. Linda says, "I am asking for your VOTE! I am running for YOU! Please run with me!"

Maren Barker, a University of Utah graduate, attorney, and Sandy resident, will promote interests of residents and businesses alike through her understanding of state & local laws, safeguard individual liberties, and protect our fundamental freedoms, which must be encouraged at the local level.

Employed by Walt Disney World for over a decade, Maren understands working for minimum wage to make ends meet. As the oldest daughter of a single mom who runs a small business, Maren understands those unique needs and has developed a common sense approach to budgeting, avoiding debt, and promoting fiscal responsibility.

Dennis and Sandy are the parents of four children, fourteen grandchildren. He has been privileged to serve on the Sandy City Council for several years. He is a responsive listener who loves people and always strives to find "win-win" solutions. Dennis is a small business owner and consultant who understands the daily challenges which we all face.

District 4

Chris McCandless

Chris McCandless brings 35 years experience in real estate development and community service as a councilman. Over the last ten years, he has facilitated development of new parks and trails as well as after-school programs. Chris founded a tourism committee to attract winter visits to Sandy and has been instrumental in making it possible for Hale Center Theater to relocate to Sandy in 2017.

Chris is a founding member of the Jordan River Commission, a Sandy City Honorary Colonel, a founding member of the Canyons Education Foundation, and a long-time committee member of a large legislative watch group.

Steven believes every elected position needs a choice; he filed on the last possible day because there was no opposition to the 3 term incumbent in District 4.

As a retiree, and resident for 30 years, he has the time to commit to the council. He already attends most City Council Meetings, often being the only member of the public. His citizen comments on various items recently changed public access to council audio recordings. He opposes the increase in the property tax this year. The Truth in Taxation hearing will be during the 7:05 PM council meeting on August 4th.
