Referred to as Mexico's Door, Piedra Negras is well-known for its ranches. Originally founded as an army camp in the late 1890s, the city also hosts coal-mining and manufacturing.
Across the Rio Grande River from Eagle Pass, Texas, the city maintains the feel of Old Mexico. Tourist attractions include the ruins of the San Bernardo Mission and the Handicrafts Museum.
Perhaps the most famous thing to come out of the city are nachos. Every year the food is celebrated at the International Nacho Fest, held in October.
Since Sandy City and Piedras Negras became Sister Cities, Sandy has been able to work with the Piedras Negras Rotary Club to provide a variety of services and materials including a much needed fire truck.
