Propane Tank Permit Requirements

  • An operational permit is required to store, use or dispense LP-gas.  Permit fee is $87.00 per site.
  • A construction permit is required for installation or modification of an LP-gas system. An electrical permit and inspection may be required by the Building Official.  Permit fee is $87.00 per container.
  • Tanks are clearly marked with "Flammable" and either "LP-Gas" or "Propane".
  • Portable containers for temporary stationary use are placed on concrete pads, paved surfaces or firm earth.
  • Approved vehicle protection shall be provided when containers are exposed to probable damage due to proximity to alleys, driveways or parking areas.
  • Clearance from combustibles shall be kept not less than 10 feet from tanks or containers.
  • Containers used in buildings under construction or undergoing major renovation follow appropriate codes and standards.
  • Clearance from heat producing appliances and combustibles shall be maintained as set forth by the appliance listing and as approved.
  • Fire extinguishers of an approved rating are provided, visible and accessible throughout the structure where there are combustibles and open flame devices used.
