- Always place infants under age 1 and weighing 30 pounds or less in a rear-facing car seat in the back seat of your car.
- Put children weighing around 30 pounds and up to age 4 in a front-facing car seat in the back seat of your car.
- Booster seats should be used from about age 4 to at least age eight and at least until the child is 4'9" tall.
- All children under age 13 ride in the back seat and use the vehicle seat belts.
- Always follow all manufacturer's instructions to install the car seat securely.
- Always make sure the harness holding the child in the safety seat fits snugly.
- As a general rule, move children to a booster seat from a convertible safety seat before using a seat belt only.
- Always send in the safety seat registration card to keep informed of updates and recalls.
- Always make sure your car seat fits properly in your car.
- To properly use a seat belt, the lap belt should fit low over the hipbone and the shoulder belt should fit over the collarbone.

- It is the responsibility of the driver of the car to see that the child passenger is properly protected - no matter what the relationship is to the child passenger.
- If your car has lap/shoulder combination belts, it could be critical to use a locking clip with your safety seat to clip the shoulder strap to the lap belt. Consult the vehicle owner's manual.
- Children should NEVER be held on an adult's lap while driving because the force of a collision would tear a child from the adult's arms. If the adult is not using a safety belt, the child could be crushed between the adult's body and the dashboard.
