Animal Services Violations

"Fixit Citations"

• Animal Services holds citations for 14 days for the following first time violations to permit individuals to come into compliance without penalty:

*Violators still may receive a credit of up to $100.00 if proof of compliance is provided to court within 30 days of the violation.

• All other citations are filed with the court without a grace period or built in delay.

• Once an Animal Services citation is received by the Justice Court, payment of the listed bail amount is required to close the case.  Failure to pay the bail or appear for a hearing within 20 days after the court receives the citation results in additional sanctions as described below. 

"Mandatory Appearance" Citations

• Citations with a court appearance date on them require an appearance in court before either a judge or a referee depending on the severity of the violation.  Failure to appear on one of these citations results in an additional charge of  "Failure To Appear" and the issuance of an arrest warrant.  Bail ranges up to $1,250 once a warrant  is issued.

All Other "No Appearance Required" Animal Services Violations

• Failure to pay the bail or set a hearing within 20 days after the case is filed with the court results in a bail increase of $50.00 on the citation.
  
  
• If a defendant fails to pay the bail or set a hearing within 40 days after the case is filed with the court, a  Failure To Appear charge is added and an arrest warrant is issued.  Bail is increased by an additional $200.00 once a warrant is issued.
