What is "Operation Safe Passage"?

"Operation Safe Passage" is a cooperative venture of the Sandy City
Police Department, the public schools, generally grade school level,
and the Parent-Teacher organization of the school. Entities such as
Community Councils and other organizations may also play an
important role in the program.

How is "Operation Safe Passage" Organized?

The first step for both "Operation Safe Passage" is an orientation
meeting to explain the programs, enlist support for the, plan and discuss
questions and concerns about them. The participants at this meeting
are:

  • The school Principal
  • PTA Leaders
  • Representative for Sandy Police Department Crime Prevention
  • Representatives of any other appropriate neighborhood organization or group.

The meeting usually concludes with assignments for recruitment of
volunteers and setting a date for a Parents Meeting.

What is the result?

Once organized, "Operations Safe Passage" helps prevent abductions
and attempted abductions, enhances pedestrian safety along safe
walking routes, and reduces opportunities for bullies to intimidate other
children.
