What's Happening Now
Operation Safe Passage is a proactive program developed to protect children from being abducted while walking to and from school. In addition, it enhances pedestrian safety along safe walking routes and reduces opportunities for bullies to intimidate other children. This program was designed to add an increased element of safety to students by reporting suspicious activity, and by giving the students a person to turn to if something goes wrong.

Kids love toy guns. These guns shoot yellow plastic balls, orange colored sponge ammo or pellets. The concern the Police Department has with these toy guns is that they look and feel real. When an officer pulls up on any given situation, the first they think about is the safety of the public as well as their own. Officers have to treat a person with a toy gun as if it were a real weapon. The last thing any of us want is an innocent person getting hurt because they were playing with a toy gun. Parents talk to your children and explain to them the issues that can arise while playing with toy guns and show them how to play with them safely.
