The Sandy City Police Department Detective Division is staffed by experienced, highly-trained, professional investigators whose sole job is to investigate and solve the myriad of crimes that occur in Sandy each year.
Department detectives have specialized knowledge, skills and resources to investigate and solve cases ranging from forgeries, frauds, and thefts to robberies, rapes, abuse cases, and homicides.
The vice unit within the Detective Division investigates cases dealing with drugs, prostitution, and other elicit crimes and a high-tech crimes unit investigates cases such as online frauds, online child exploitation, child pornography, and other cases.
The Detective Division also houses an evidence collection unit staffed by experienced crime scene technicians and evidence experts.
If you have been the victim of a crime that you reported to the department and your case presents evidence or information that may eventually lead to a suspect, you can rest assured that the police department will do everything possible to see that your case is solved and the suspect(s) eventually charged with the crime.
In many cases, the officer that took the initial report will be able to investigate your case and bring it to a resolution.
If the offense committed was serious, your case may be assigned to an investigator in the department Detective Division. The assigned detective will investigate your case and work to resolve it successfully. Should the detective be able to both identify the suspect(s) in the crime and obtain enough evidence to provide probable cause that the suspect(s) committed the crime, the detective will present your case to the prosecuting attorney. The prosecutor will ultimately decide whether or not charges will be brought against the suspect(s).
Your case may not provide enough clues to concretely point to a suspect. If this is true, your case may not be actively worked.
