Sandy City's Engineering Division provides the following services:
- We develop the City's Capitol Improvement Program (not including utilities). The program includes new roadway construction and roadway widening and reconstruction projects. Input comes from citizens, city staff and studies. We program at least five years into the future so we can coordinate with other entities such as utilities. For larger projects that are beyond our City resources, we pursue funding from the Federal Highway Administration and Utah Department of Transportation to make these projects a reality.
- We perform "Cradle-to-Grave" Project Management. This includes project programming, pursuit of funding, design work (in-house or contract), construction management and maintenance for the life of the project. This work is typically small road construction projects, asphalt overlays, sidewalk construction and reconstruction, curb and gutter replacement, and other activities that help maintain our public right-of-way.
- We ensure that developers, contractors and homeowners who are doing work in the City's public right-of-way perform the work to City standards. We accomplish this by reviewing plans, issuing permits to manage/control work, ensure bonding for the work is in place to protect the public facilities, and inspecting public improvements as required.
- We develop, operate and maintain the Geographic Information System (GIS) for the Department of Public Works and coordinate GIS activities between Public Works and other City Departments. We also provide automated cartographic and related database services to the department and produce professional mapping, graphic mapping, graphic illustrations, general planning research and related report preparation services.
