Tree Trimming

Throughout the city there is a concern that poor visibility from trees and shrubs as well as low hanging branches may contribute to accidents and injuries. As a result, the Sandy City Tree Stewardship ordinance requires a 14 ft. clearance over the road and/or 8 ft. clearance over sidewalks. In addition, the sight triangle at intersections should be cleared of any obstruction which creates a traffic hazard.

If you receive a green "Trimming Notice", the City is requesting that you make the necessary trimming of the trees/shrubs in order to conform with the item checked on the notice. This action needs to take place within the next 10 days. If not, City employees will trim the tree(s) on the parkstrip. You do not need to call and give permission for the trees on the parkstrip to be trimmed.

For the trees on your property, if you would like to trim them yourself please do so within the 10 day period. If you would like City employees to trim trees on your property please call the number below to grant the City permission. If we do not hear from you after 10 days, City crews will only trim your trees even with the back edge of the sidewalk. If the City crews trim your trees, there will be no cost to the resident.

Tree Removal

We have been very careful in our evaluation of each tree. As a City we are responsible for everything that impacts the public way, which includes the sidewalk and street. Your cooperation will make Sandy City a safer place for pedestrians as well as motorists.
