Tree Trimming

Throughout the city, citizens have had some concern that poor visibility due to trees and shrubs may contribute to accidents of vehicles and pedestrians.  As a result, the Sandy City Tree Stewardship ordinance requires a 14 ft clearance over the road and/or 8 ft clearance over sidewalks.

If you receive a green "Trimming Notice", the City is requesting that you make the necessary trimming of the trees, shrubs, etc. in order to conform with the item checked on the notice. This action needs to take place within the next 10 days. If not, City employees will trim the tree(s) on the parkstrip. You do not need to call and give permission for the trees on the parkstrip to be trimmed.

For the tree(s) on your property, if you would like to trim them yourself, please do so within the 10 day period. If you would like City employees to trim trees on your property, please call the number below to grant the City permission. If we do not hear from you after 10 days, City crews will only trim your trees even with the back edge of the sidewalk. If the City crews trim your tree(s), there will be no cost to the resident.

Tree Removal

If you receive a green "Tree Removal" card, the City is requesting that you remove the trees, shrubs, etc. in order to conform with the item checked on the notice (obstruction of the visibility of a sign/intersection). This action needs to take place within the next 10 days. If not, City employees will remove the tree(s) on the parkstrip.

For the tree(s) on your property, if you would like to remove them yourself, please do so within the 10 day period. If you would like City employees to remove the trees on your property, please call the number below to grant the City permission. The City will be responsible for the removal of the tree and roots, plus the restoration of landscaping, irrigation systems, and other items that may be impacted by the removal. There will be no cost to the resident for this service.

We have been very careful in our evaluation of each tree. As a City we are responsible for everything that impacts the public way, which includes the sidewalk and street. Your cooperation will make Sandy City a safer place for pedestrians as well as motorists.

If you have questions, please contact the Public Works Department at 801-568-2999.  Thank you for your cooperation!
