Bradburn Brief - May 2019

Post Date:05/03/2019 12:00 PM

Dear Sandy Resident,

After a prolonged winter, it is nice to enjoy a few Spring days!

A snow-packed winter means great skiing and extra water reserves but it also means high-water runoff in streams and possible flooding. Make sure you keep an extra eye on your children and pets around rivers and streams and observe running water from a safe distance. Prepare for potential flooding by knowing the elevation of your property in relation to waterways and understand the surrounding areas and their tendency for heavy runoff. Deploy sandbags where appropriate. If a flood is possible, move your valuables to a higher elevation just in case. Refresh your 72-hour kits in the event you have to leave your home quickly. Don’t forget to register your cell phones for the Reverse 911 system so you receive alerts of problems in your area at: vecc9-1-1.com. Please call the Sandy Public Utilities Department at 801-352-4400 if you experience flooding or need sandbags.

We are now officially in the 2019-2020 budget season! I submitted my proposed budget to the council on April 16. This budget allocates money towards a number of my priorities. These include technology upgrades to make doing business with the city easier and faster for residents, expanded emergency communications, air quality improvements, as well as competitive pay for first responders and other positions where the city is finding it difficult to retain qualified employees. City Council will take the next few months to review and adjust the budget. There are multiple opportunities for you to weigh in at City Council meetings and you can use our new online budget tool to create your own proposed budget at sandy-utah-gov.v1.abalancingact.com! The final budget must be approved by the end of June so please take the time to let us know where you would like your tax dollars spent.

Lastly, please remember that you can always connect with us to get more information by going to our city websites sandy.utah.gov and SandyNow.com and by following our social media channels on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube for daily updated information. You can also contact me at mayor@sandy.utah.gov.

Thank you for allowing me to serve you,

Mayor Kurt Bradburn
