To obtain an above ground propane tank permit:

  • Submit a site plan and the form to the Fire Marshal's Division located at Station 31 - 9010 S 150 E, Sandy. Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM.
  • Pay the applicable fees after plan is approved:
    • In person - Station 31, 9010 S 150 E, Sandy. Check or credit card accepted.
    • Over the phone (801) 568-2930 with a credit card payment.
  • Please contact Sandy City Fire Department at (801) 568-2930 to schedule an inspection.

Requirements

  • An operational permit is required to store, use or dispense LP-gas.  Above ground propane tank inspection permit fee: 
  • $75.00 for tanks 100-500 gallons per site 
  • $150.00 for tanks 501 gallons or greater per site
  • A construction permit is required for installation or modification of an LP-gas system. An electrical permit and inspection may be required by the Building Official payable at Sandy City Hall, if applicable.
  • Tanks are clearly marked with "Flammable" and either "LP-Gas" or "Propane".
  • Portable containers for temporary stationary use are placed on concrete pads, paved surfaces or firm earth.
  • Approved vehicle protection shall be provided when containers are exposed to probable damage due to proximity to alleys, driveways or parking areas.
  • Clearance from combustibles shall be kept not less than 10 feet from tanks or containers.
  • Containers used in buildings under construction or undergoing major renovation follow appropriate codes and standards.
  • Clearance from heat producing appliances and combustibles shall be maintained as set forth by the appliance listing and as approved.
  • Fire extinguishers of an approved rating are provided, visible and accessible throughout the structure where there are combustibles and open flame devices used.
