The Sandy City Tree Stewardship ordinance (15A-25-03) requires a 14 ft. clearance over the road and/or 8 ft. clearance over sidewalks. The ordinance also requires residents to trim trees/vegetation on their property as well as on adjacent parkstrips to meet the height requirements. In addition, the sight triangle at intersections shall be cleared of any obstruction that creates a traffic hazard.
Annually, the Streets Division tree crew will inspect trees and vegetation on those streets scheduled for maintenance. If you receive a yellow "Trimming Notice", the City is requesting that you make the necessary trimming of the tree(s)/vegetation in order to conform to the item checked on the notice. This action would need to take place within the next 14 days after receipt of the notice and you are responsible for removing and disposing the trimmings.
If your tree(s)/vegetation is determined to be a hazard and needs to be removed, you will receive a green "Tree/Vegetation Removal" card. On the card, the City is requesting that you remove the tree(s)/vegetation in order to conform to the item checked. This action would need to take place within the next 14 days after receipt of the notice and you are responsible for disposing the tree(s)/vegetation.
We have been very careful in our evaluation of each tree/vegetation. As a City we are responsible for everything that impacts the public way, which includes the sidewalk and street. Your cooperation will make Sandy City a safer place for pedestrians as well as motorists.
