OCTOBER IS SUSTAINABILITY MONTH

Join the Sustainable Sandy 360° initiative! Sustainable Sandy 360° is an effort between Sandy City and its partners that focuses on initiatives that city employees, departments, and citizens implement to make our city more sustainable.

CHARGE YOUR AUTOMOBILE FOR FREE IN OCTOBER AT ANY SANDY CITY ELECTRIC VEHICLE STATION

Sandy City, in conjuction with Rocky Mountain Power, Dominion Energy, Utah Clean Cities, and UCAIR, is celebrating Sustainability Month with this offer to residents to bring awareness to air quality improvement, recycling, and other green intiatives.

HELP IMPROVE AIR QUALITY

WHAT SANDY IS DOING

  • A number of new energy-efficient/lower-emissions vehicles in our police fleet
  • Electric vehicle stations at city locations

 

WHAT YOU CAN DO

  • Use an eco-friendly lawnmower
  • Use bike lanes and scooters when possible

MAKE IMPROVEMENTS AT FACILITIES AND AT HOME

  • Composts landscape waste and uses shade trees to reduce urban heat islands
  • Uses LED/smart lighting on streets and motion sensor lighting in all facilities

 

WHAT YOU CAN DO

  • Mow less frequently and hand weed
  • Sign up for energy-savings programs and install Energy Star® where possible

FIND WAYS TO RECYCLE AND REDUCE WASTE

  • Offers waste and recycling bins at each facility
  • Provides water-filling stations to reduce use of plastic water bottles

 

WHAT YOU CAN DO

  • Sign up and use standard and glass curbside recycling
  • Use refillable water bottles instead of plastic water bottles
